The types of SUP must be understood first before making a choice. This is the first step in doing so because not all of them function according to your preference. Since they are varied, they are expected to perform differently.

Surfing SUP, as its name speaks for itself, is solely for surfing. Its narrow, light, and short body structure makes its stability lower compared to other types. Thus, it is very ideal for high performance turns and ocean wave riding but not ideal for long distance paddling.

A touring SUP is typically much longer and wider in terms of structure and is much heavier. Its nose is pointed. Because of its size and greater volume, you can be sure of its stability unlike the wave boards. If you want to spend your precious leisure time paddling a calm lake on a beautiful day or if you are doing this for the first time, having this is a fantastic deal.

The last type is no other than the inflatable. Some paddlers rent a room or space in apartments or have cars or vehicles that are used transport large boards. Sometimes, they can be a hassle since they take up space. If you are one of those people, this SUP will make a perfect sense for you. They are much lighter and more convenient. However, you have to endure the stiffness of a regular board, making paddling in a river challenging but manageable in light conditions.

In choosing the best, you must take a look on its hull or body which plays a major role of the functions each of them has. In other words, the type of your choice will be based on the kind of paddling or surfing you are intending to do. If you are to choose between solid or inflatable, your choice will be based on factors such as portability and storage.

To be sure of a safe paddling experience, choose a board with capacity that is right for your weight and height. Doing so can ensure you of a good stability. Consider also its length, thickness and width as these play a big role in determining its performance. After checking on to these aspects, you may also take into consideration the accessories or other parts that may work for you and the board.
